Final Assessment Blog Post

This school year, I'm actually proud to say that I enjoyed P.E.! I enjoyed being in a class with all girls, most of them being close friends, and being able to go on fieldtrips.
- Participation -

- Almost always showed up to class with pe strip on (forgot shoes once, but borrowed a friends)

- Missed 1-2 classes

- Social Responsibility & Contribution -

- Usually put in alot of effort & encouraged friends to push themselves

- Usually bring a positive attitude/energy

- Good sportsmanship

- Healthy Living -

- Good changes in fitness scores; got better at running & know how to pace pretty well, lifting heavier weights in weight room.

- Learned to find better ways to modify activities if there are any barriers/limitations.

- Good eating habits

Overall, I felt like this class taught me how to be more adventurous and that there are tons of sports/activities in which doesn't take too much effort to be good at and that I don't have to be good at everything because all that matters is whether or not you learned something from the activity. It's difficult to give myself an actual percentage based on the effort and energy I bring to the class because a number shouldn't represent what I've learned from the class and shouldn't entirely reflect on my contributions to the class, but I think I'd deserve 83%, which is a B because I think that this year my attitude towards P.E. has changed and I no longer despise of it since I hope to continue challenging myself at home by working out/getting a gym membership and working towards an ideal, healthy lifestyle.

Aim Games Reflection

The Aim Games was an event that my friends & I volunteered for. We were the school hosts for Earl Mariott Secondary; we basically had to tell people where the games were being held. What I liked about this event was that everyone participated by bringing positive vibes and we noticed that simple, kind actions such as giving high-fives to the athletes made their day. The Aim Games was inspiring because it helped others to learn about what students living with special needs/disabilities have to deal with on a daily basis and that nothing can stop them from doing fun activities and can still live happy lives as long as others are respectful of them.

Fencing

Last week we did fencing. It was pretty fun and involved lots of lunging and was good in working out your leg muslces. I learned alot from fencing and my favourite part was the last day where I got to fight people within my group. The only thing I didn`t like about fencing was when I got hit by others because I was somewhat afraid of getting hit!

Hill Run - 4.14.14

Yesterday when we did the hill run, I didn`t feel too energetic or prepared because in the morning I rushed and was unable to eat breakfast and forgot my lunch at home. Since I didn`t eat anything the whole day, I felt really lightheaded during the run and didn`t have the energy in me to participate to the fulllest. One of my friends that ran with me kept encouraging me to run faster or keep going at a steady pace and I knew I had to catch up with her, so I did try to push myelf. Typically, I strongly dislike running in the sun because I always get a headache afterwards. Although I feel like I did my best for the hill run, I didn`t feel good at all after it, but I guess after every workout you do, you always have some aches and pains.

Report Card Post - 4.15.14

1.  Action: Attendance & Participation (55%)
Attendance, gym strip, willingness to participate in a variety of activities.  Field trip attendance if applicable.  Effort in different activities & block wide fitness days.

-I've never missed a class of PE, but have been late a couple of times.
-I've always showed up with my gym strip on.
-My willingness to participate and effort can depend on how my mornings have started off. Whenever I forget to eat something in the mornings, I tend to feel really drained out and feel like I've pushed myself too hard after PE. Generally, I'm always enthusiastic about going to PE.
-I've attended almost every fieldtrip we've been on so far, except ice skating.

2.  Contribution: to the class as a community - leadership, responsible decision making, empathy towards others, inclusion. How do you make our class better? (18%)

-I make responsible decisions
-Ì bring a positive attitude to the class, along with my friends
- I try to motivate others when they`re struggling during an activity
-I feel like everyone in the class are leaders because we work as a team; for example by the end of the class, we all are responsible and work together to put equipment away and clean up after ourselves.

3.  Reflection: thoughtful completion of blog posts, self assessment, knowledge of strengths & weaknesses, preparation for interview.(10%)

So far all my blog posts that we needed to write are up to date. I feel like at this point in the semester, I`ve really settled in and have gotten used to doing harder workouts and also challenge myself by pushing myself further. I understand what my strenghts are and what I need to work towards. My weaknesses are when we`re doing block-wide fitness days; I feel like I have a limited amount of space and don`t do as well.

Overall Percentage: 83%

PE update

a)  your attendance & daily effort (being prepared, willing to participate)

i've never missed a day of pe. i've forgotten to bring my pe strip once; it was the first day we got back from spring break & i totally forgot to bring proper shoes. besides that, i'm always willing to participate and try to put my full effort into doing things, even if it means modifying something.

b)  the energy that you bring to class

i always bring a positive energy into the class.

c)  how you deal with participation in activities that you are not very skilled at (being outside of your comfort zone)

i try to modify activities in my own way.

d)  what can YOU do to make our class better from now on?

encouraging my friends to push themselves and stop playing around on their phones!

Dance Week

Dance week is one of the things I look forward to doing in PE. I felt like I got more out of doing Zumba and Bhangra. Line dance and Hip Hop were my least favourite dances because I felt like there were more steps to it and that at the end of the PE block, I didn't really feel like I worked out. Most of the time, I like dancing for fun, but I realized at the end of dance week that I got a real workout from some of the dances because I was sore for a few days!

Interim report

THE BASICS:

Attendance - How many classes have you missed?   Why? - None
Did Not Participate (DNP) - How many classes have you not participated in?  Why? - N/A
No Strip (NS) - How many times have you forgotten / not changed into gym strip? - N/A

How have the above most basic parts of coming to Get Fit affected your ability to participate so far this semester?

I've showed up every day to PE with my  PE strip on & ready to participate.

PARTICIPATION:

How would you rate the intensity of your participation in class? - 8/10 most of the time.

Comment on your participation during block wide fitness days compared to doing fitness as a class.

I  think that I participate well on both types of fitness days, but I find that whenever we do a block-wide fitness day, it can get a little crowded in the gym which makes it harder to give my full effort.

Provide a specific example of a class (or two) that you are proud of your participation.  Why?

On one of the first days that our class did fitness by ourselves and had to do the pyramid work out

In what ways could you improve?

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS:

Having a positive attitude about everything and being willing to put in my full effort into whatever we are doing that day. Also, whenever my friends and I are together, I think that we all have a really productive day and tend to work harder whenever we're together.

What type of energy do you bring to class?  How are you contributing to the success of the class?

A positive and open-minded kind of energy; although I might not really like a certain activity, there is no point in being negative or grumpy about it because it won't make the class any fun. I think I contribute to the class by being a social and enthusiastic participant.

What can you do to make the class better for you and others?

Try to motivate people & by being more enthusiastic.
What is motivating you to
participate?

Knowing that whatever I do in PE will only benefit me if I try my best.

Thoughts on "Miss Representation"

Last week we watched a film called "Miss Representation". I feel like girls can be both intelligent and look pretty at the same time, but what I heard from this movie was that most guys are basically sexist cowards who go for the looks. I could relate to this movie because it was all about girl-power and having that ablility to put as much effort into things like men do and having independence, which applies to what we're doing in this Get Fit class; all the girls need to cooperate and push each other to do things.

Why I chose to take Get Fit

The reason why I chose Get Fit this year is because I wanted to try out something a little bit different than just regular PE, where I didn't feel like I fit in too well. My goals for this semester is to push my self more and focus on my own abilities and my personal health, which may be difficult considering I have PE everyday! I know that this class is different, as it is the only class full of girls, which may be a good thing because some of my friends are in this class and also because most of the time in a regular PE class, I found that I really disliked doing group activities, or maybe I didn't put my best effort into doing anything and tried to avoid doing stuff, but I understand now that whatever I do in PE only benefits me and it doesn't matter about what other's think. Therefore, I hope that this class will open my mind up about PE and why it's important.
